School Holidays Pottery Class for Kids

How to use the pottery wheel, sculpting and ceramic painting

7 to 14 years     1.5 hours Class size 3 to 4

label $75 (Afterpay available)
This one-and-a-half-hour pottery experience includes a bundle of pottery activities, such as the pottery wheel, sculpting, and ceramic painting.
This mindful pottery class is conducted in a small group (max four students), allowing the teacher to attend to the learning need and creative aspiration of each child.
Children will start the class at the pottery wheel, where they will be guided to create a shape of their choice. The young artists will then experiment with freely forming the clay to sculpt different objects and ornaments to decorate their pot. Children will use ceramic paints to add colours to their design.
By the end of the class, each child will make a colourful trinket dish with small ornaments of their choice. Children will leave their artwork for glazing and kiln-firing (included in the price) and the finished pieces will be ready for collection two weeks after the class.

Wheelfulness Studio is a tranquil and inviting pottery workshop nestled in the quiet suburb of Willoughby. This small studio is equipped with four wheels and it is a hidden gem where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in the therapeutic art of pottery.
Classes are held by Bettina Stevanovic, who offers a unique therapeutic approach to pottery. Drawing on her psychology background and sensorimotor art therapy training, Bettina incorporates somatic mindfulness to enhance presence and stillness at the spinning wheel.
Prior to working with clay, Bettina has completed PhD in psychology and worked in academia. Her pottery journey started as a hobby in 2015 when she discovered that the tactile sensation of clay and the rhythmic movement of the wheel had a soothing effect on her overactive mind. She started Wheelfulness pottery in 2019 and enjoys helping others discover their inner potter. To further explore the therapeutic benefits of working with clay, Bettina has has undertook training in Clay Field Therapy® and now also offers somatic clay therapy sessions.
