7 Creative Ways Our Team Keeps Their Brain Sharp

7 Creative Ways Our Team Keeps Their Brain Sharp

By Laine Fullerton

When we think about staying healthy, we often focus on hitting the gym, eating right, and managing stress. There’s something else that deserves our attention—our brains. Just like our muscles need exercise and our hearts need a balanced diet, our brains need regular stimulation and mental care to stay sharp. After all, they’re a key part of everything we do.

In 2025, an estimated 421,000 Australians are living with dementia, a collection of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain. With those numbers expected to rise, taking proactive steps to enhance our brain health has never been more important.

Alongside eating well and exercising, taking time out to get crafty has proven cognitive benefits. It may even reduce your risk of developing dementia! That’s why it’s our mission to make creative workshops accessible to everyone—to help you switch off, unwind and experience the brain-boosting benefits of creativity. Plus, we give $1 from every booking to Dementia Australia to help support and empower those impacted by this condition.

Actively looking after your brain health is essential at any age and the good news is it’s easier than you might think. To help you get started on your brain-boosting journey, we’re sharing the creative things our team loves to do—however big or small—that help keep our brains sharp.

1. Stay curious and try new things

Community Partnerships Manager Ryan Delzoppo loves trying new unique experiences like glass blowing and pottery. "It keeps my mind engaged and always learning,” Ryan says. Stepping out of your comfort zone and exploring new hobbies can stimulate your brain in exciting ways you just don’t get from your daily routine.

“I would love to try my hand at whittling next. The idea of shaping a piece of wood into something interesting and fun is very appealing,” Ryan says. A cool new activity to get stuck into and brain-boosting benefits? It’s a win-win!

2. Find joy in nostalgic tunes

Growth Partner Richelle Villegas loves listening to nostalgic music playlists. "It not only relaxes me but also brings back fond memories," Richelle says. Music can be a powerful tool for mental stimulation and relaxation, but it’s also the perfect accompaniment to other activities.

“I like to listen to instrumental music while doing stretches and yoga to get into full relaxation mode,” Richelle says. You’ll also find her learning new rollerskating tricks while jamming out to her favourite music. “When I'm able to unlock a new move, it makes me feel ecstatic to be able to expand my brain with some new skating techniques.”

Whether you’re listening to your favourite tunes from the past or exploring new genres, music can provide a soothing escape and a mental boost.

3. Step up to the challenge

For Class Production Specialist Bec Bowe, cooking without recipes is one of her favourite ways to engage her mind. "I enjoy the challenge of cooking without a recipe. It forces me to think creatively and trust my instincts," Bec says.

Trying something new, whether in the kitchen or beyond, can spark creativity, boost confidence, and sharpen your mind—all while being fun and rewarding.

4. Surround yourself with inspiration

For Class Production Lead Jana Lepojevic, staying motivated to get creative starts with the environment she creates. "I try to surround myself with inspiration so I’m more motivated to chase creative pursuits," Jana explains. By immersing herself in topics that pique her interest—right now that’s diving into permaculture and self-sustainable living—Jana keeps her mind engaged and open to new ideas.

Surrounding yourself with inspiring people and experiences can act as a powerful brain booster, fueling your creativity and sharpening your mind as you explore new passions!

5. Shake up your routine with play

classbento team

Head of Digital Marketing Dea Lalwani believes in adding a touch of fun to her daily life. "Recently, I've tried to find different ways to 'play' so that there’s some form of fun injected into my daily routine. Some examples include trying new paint mediums, allowing myself to be messy, and exploring new areas with my partner and our dog, Harley," Dea shares.

Changing up your routine and incorporating playful activities is the perfect way to bring a sense of joy and spontaneity to the everyday! Whether it’s experimenting with art, taking a different route on your walk, or simply allowing yourself to be a little messy, these small changes can refresh your mind and keep your brain engaged and happy.

6. Knit your way to relaxation

When it comes to unwinding, Content Writer Kiana Pontrelli turns to cosy textile crafts like knitting and crocheting. "It doesn't require a lot of supplies, so you can pick it up any time. And it's great for multi-tasking with a show, podcast, or while hanging with friends," Kiana says.

These portable crafts are perfect for relaxing while staying productive. Whether you're binge-watching your favourite series or catching up with friends, you can create something tangible—like a scarf or cosy blanket—while giving your mind a break from the day's stresses.

7. Recharge with nature

classbento team

Nothing beats the refreshment of a nature escape! ClassBento Co-Founder John Tabari says, “When I do have free time and it’s warm, jumping in for a swim in the ocean pool is the best way to re-energise.” As for the cooler months, John is all about “pottering around in the garden.”

Growth Partnerships Manager Holly Peasland adds, “Going for a run outside is my go-to for clearing my head and feeling energised.” Whether it’s diving into the waves or taking a quick lunchtime stroll, getting outdoors and moving your body can give your brain a delightful boost and keep you feeling rejuvenated.
