5 Craft Trends to Tap Into Your Inner Maximalist in 2025

5 Craft Trends to Tap Into Your Inner Maximalist in 2025

By Laine Fullerton

Want to go bigger, brighter and bolder this year? There’s never been a better time. Maximalism has made a comeback and it’s here to stay in 2025.

So, when it comes to this year's craft trends, it's all about maximising things—from colours and space to patterns and texture. This sets the stage for quirky crafts to explode in light of people seeking out one-of-a-kind treasures (hello, handmade!). The best part? This visual trend is all about creating a space that’s meaningful to you, no matter how imperfect or mismatched it is.

Ready to bring joy to your home? Here are five craft trends to try in 2025 that embrace maximalism and will help you bring a slice of individuality to your space this year.

Make meaningful memories (and art) with neon painting

paint in the dark class

Ever wanted to create art that lights up the room? Now's your chance. Neon painting classes have quickly risen to our top-selling paint and sip classes in the past few months, and we predict they’ll only continue to grow in 2025.

What is essentially a fresh take on the paint and sip trend, these glow-in-the-dark sessions are the perfect place to dim the lights, make meaningful memories and create an art piece that literally glows. Naturally, the bright, fluorescent colours fit right into the maximalist aesthetic, so for those looking to add a burst of colour to their home, this experience is a win-win.

Why our community loves it…

“Experimenting with different lights gave the final piece so many perspectives. We loved it!” - Maire S, Fluid Art Class: UV Edition

“The teacher was fantastic and the look of the paint was awesome under the UV light.” - Jason R, Paint and Sip Class in the Dark

Brighten your tablescapes with coloured glass art

glass blowing

Minimalist clear tumblers and wine glasses are out and brightly-hued cups, candle stick holders and goblets are in. This shift away from traditional glassware offers the perfect opportunity to DIY coloured glass art pieces through a variety of beginner-friendly crafts.

Stained glass art is just one of those, with Google searches for ‘stained glass painting’ lifting over 50 per cent in the past year. Our teacher community has already jumped on the trend with new classes like this one going up every week.

Glass fusing is another type of glass art that’s starting to gain traction, so much so that we even created a dedicated page last year to showcase all the amazing classes our teacher community has. Glass blowing continues to dominate our best sellers list and with first-timers creating colourful glass art like that of the photos on this class, you’ll quickly understand why.

Why our community loves it…

“Quite a therapeutic process and such a beautiful suncatcher to take home at the end of the session.” - Jacinta O, Stained Glass Suncatcher Making Class

Glassblowing is something you can definitely feel a sense of mastery over in a short space of time, evidenced by the cool glass tumbler and paperweight you walk away with!” - Valerie H, Introductory Glassblowing Workshop

Add bold colours and soft textures through crochet

DIY crochet blanket

Crochet is enjoying a revival right now and it comes as no surprise. This vintage craft is a creative way for total beginners and long-time crafters to tap into a funky, 70s retro aesthetic, all while being budget-friendly. The boom of maximalism has only given crochet a further platform, with bright yarn colours and bold patterns adding warmth, fun and texture to any living space.

If you think blankets are the only thing you can crochet, think again. Sydneysiders can crochet a chunky knit handbag in under two hours, while Melburnians can build on foundational skills (AKA mastering the granny square) that will help them make statement clothing. Yarn craft newbies are flocking to this hobby with Google searches for ‘crochet for beginners’ skyrocketing by almost 250 per cent in the last 12 months, compared to the previous year.

Why our community loves it…

“The teacher was great and her passion for crochet has definitely rubbed off on me. I am crochet crazy now!” - Sammie B, Crochet Class for Beginners

“We haven't crocheted before, but we are thrilled to bits with our new bags and feel confident to make another!” - Rebecca E

Express your personality with collage art

collage art

Collage art is experiencing a resurgence and bookings for our classes have more than doubled in the last four months. Likely due to some combination of the Y2K comeback and the maximalist aesthetic, the papercraft is going mainstream and showcasing a new way for people to tap into nostalgia.

When diving into this trending craft in 2025, you’ll find much more than the standard paper collage you probably remember making at school. ‘Collage weaving’ took TikTok by storm last year and even our teacher community is getting creative—just check out this cassette collage mixtape class by Brisbane-based art studio Stash World.

Max and Zoe from that paper joint, a local collage studio in Melbourne, sum it up pretty perfectly, “The best thing about collage art is that it’s a true adventure. You might plan your collage creation but usually chance, surprise and luck play a key factor as well.”

Why our community loves it…

“Seeing how making collages turned into a way to reflect on myself, heal a bit, and connect with others was pretty mind-blowing.” - Thalita F, Collage Art Workshop

“Sitting around a big table whilst exploring an eclectic mix of magazines, newspapers and a myriad of old books, was in itself a nostalgic journey.” - Sharon B, Cut and Paste Collage Workshop

Bring happiness to your home with quirky DIY rugs

tufting for beginners

We know we’ve spoken about tufting quite a bit here but our editorial team gave it a go last year and we truly get why it’s not fading out anytime soon. Not only is the process totally beginner-friendly, visually satisfying and quite relaxing, the quirky rugs and creations you make are seriously impressive.

As it turns out, these fluffy, eccentric patterns can be made in more ways than just tufting. Punch needle is the slower, more mindful version of rug making, and is perfect for crafting smaller pieces (like these eye-catching coasters or as TikTok likes to call them, mug rugs). Plus, it’s super easy to get set up with this craft and it’s the perfect companion to pop in your handbag when you’re on the go.

Why our community loves it…

“Officially hooked on tufting! Loved the relaxed vibe and atmosphere, perfect for a pre-dinner date activity with the added bonus of something cool to own at the end!” - Jonathan B, Tufting 101 Workshop

“As someone who had never made rugs before we were made to feel totally at ease and calm, which allowed us to enjoy the experience so much more. Benjamin had us smiling the entire time and we left with some amazing rugs!” - Calista W, Custom Tufted Rug Making Workshop - Open Session
