Have you always wanted a classic Adirondack chair? An outdoor chair you could comfortably sit in all day just watching the world pass by. Somewhere to enjoy a great book, a beer or wine or even dinner.
Working under an experienced Canadian cabinet maker, students will learn about the basics of furniture building including wood and construction principles, design, working with a range of hand and power tools. You will walk away with not only possibly the most comfortable outdoor chair you have ever sat in, but one you’ve built yourself. You will also gain a range of skills and knowledge that will leave you ready to tackle a range of furniture projects of your own.
What we'll cover:- Knowledge of general safety in the workshop
- Timber selection for outdoor use and an understanding of second-hand timber
- Grain direction and strengths and weaknesses
- Project outline and assembly
- Use of various woodworking tools and equipment
- Use woodworking fixings such as screws and bolts
- How to use woodworking glues
- Sanding and finishing
Transporting your chair home:- The Adirondack chair is large. You will be able to store it at the school if necessary until the following Wednesday latest. You must pick it up by then.
- To make it a little easier to transport home, the chair can be slightly disassembled, and you will need to reinsert 8 screws at home. Also, the outdoor oil finish will need to be applied at home to avoid any mess in your transportation vehicle.
- If you live near the school Mark may be able to drop off your chair using his Ute after the class on Saturday evening.
- If transportation is difficult, a delivery service can pick up the chair and deliver (at an additional expense).
